We stayed at an RV park in Loreto to watch the Baja 1000. The atmosphere was festive to say the least and Stacie had remarked "it's like tailgating on steroids" Fires were everywhere and anything that burned was drug, pulled, and scavanged for fuel to feed all the fires.
Locals brought the whole family and some had even strapped beds, couches, and baby cribs on top of cars or thrown in back of truck. We were more amazed at what was up with the locals than the race itself.
This was the first bike through and was the winner on a Honda , the interval between bikes was about 1 hour , needless to say we split after the 5th bike or so.
Sunrise at Bay of Los Angeles , we saw dolphins here the morning we departed. I'd like to go back and spend 3 or 4 days here just to snorkel and visit a few of the 35 Islands that are in the bay.
The sunrises were spectacular and I awoke every morning to ensure it was captured . Early on at San Felipe I awoke to see the first of many sunrise's and my mental timer was set for the entire trip. We saw many Pelicans and who can pass on a sunrise with one in the foreground?
Tecolote beach just outside of La Paz. We remained here for 4-5 days, it was free to camp (that's a plus) and the water was warm .
Your's truely with a check point soldier. Seems most of the time we were waved through but if truth be told I was searched more than Stacie. It always time consuming due to the fact all gear on top had to be removed to get to the Panniers.
No I'm not urinatiting , all of you know me better than that LOL. Just admiring the sunrise at a beach N. of Santaz Pac.
We rode into La paz and there was a parade , kind of cool to see some old American automobiles on display.
We ate at Mama Espinoza , we enjoyed some fish taco's and daughter Espinoza asked if we'd like to meet MaMa? Stacie jumped on it and I was hesitant but she said "YOU are going" I was elated to have accepted and MaMa was sharp and spoke english as well as any of us. We spoke of motorcycles, life, and she remarked how lucky I was to have a wife who rode her bike with me. YES I am! Mama is 104 years of age and reminded me of my Mother in that she also had a kind heart and a great sense of humor. She blessed us and asked us to be kind to each other and take of of God's Children. What a woman!
San Ignacio Mission , we were here for Thanksgiving and our treat was a streetside vendor's burrito . Was very good and we didn't regret being South for the holiday.
Nemo in Monterrey,Ca. this was on our ride down to Baja , we camped at Veterans Memorial Park and it rained , I MEAN RAINED all night . The wind blew and the sky just poured all night. Nemo kept us dry and as you can see we had rivers under and all around us.
Gas prices just South of Big Sur . I believe in profit but this was rediculous especially when gas was about 3.40a gallon .I hope when these clowns travel that they too are ripped off and taken advantage of.
Our camping site at Bay of Los Angeles, Antonio owned this C.G. it was something like Archelous . Really nice guy and a pleasure to speak with.
We rode 70 miles of the baja 1000 just South of Puertositos , Stacie had a few mishaps in the sand but as I said to her" how many women can say they rode part of the 1000 route" We'd pich up her bike and she would carry on just as she always does. Yep she's got a lot of quit in her!!!!!!!
San Javier Mission just outside of Loreto , the road was paved but had a few techical sections due to landslides and really big boulders to manuever around or through.
Santa Rosalito was a town that the French discovered and the industry that once was life is now history. This town was indeed full of industry .
Yes another sunrise at Santaz Pac , you have to go to really get the full impact of the morning as the sun rises over the mountains and ocean.
Billy getting coffee ready and enjoying the morning at La Paz. As usual we ate pretty well and enjoyed being self contained .
La Paz , Stacie had remarked " I'm ready to kick back sit on the beach and swim" so with that we never made it to San Cabo , but it was a great idea . We had a great 4-5 days here on the beach
Riding down and back from Baja we encountered storms that soaked us through and through . It could of been worse , if cold yes SNOW but rain you just get wet, very wet.
She's upright and out of the ditch, just kidding but it is true she is riding part of the 1000 just N. of COCO's corner.
On rides of this length maintenance must be done , so I purchased enough oil to do both bikes while at La Paz.
I awoke 1 morning at La Paz to what would be a rear flat tire. I've changed numerous tires at the shop but truth be told this was my first roadside flat. All went well.
Sunset at COCO's corner, very nice man and he said "you stay here for the night , 3-4 hours before you get where you can camp" Put stuff over there and stay for free. We were delighted to have done so and sat around their fire and told stories. Fantastic man ,a guy who has little but would give you anything you need.
I rode over to Bend the week prior of trip and we loaded RED in the truck so Stacie would meet me in Eugene. WE weren't sure of weather and pass condition's upon our return so thought it would be best .
Our goal was to have sun.fun, fish taco's and Margaritas, we accomplished the latter finaaly at La Paz. They were top notch and we felt GOOD!
Who said a cooler is only to keep things cool? I say when your hair needs a good washing you use what you have and you best enjoy it!
Good job, Sweetie! I just shoveled snow off the driveway. I could use some sun, sand, and a margarita! Love you!
